About Rachel

Rachel has been a content writer since 2015, when she left her teaching position to care for her second child. Although she loved teaching, she wanted to prioritize being at home with her little ones, born in 2013, 2015, and 2018. Writing about topics related to her expertise and experience has allowed her more flexibility as a working mom.

Her work has been featured in various company journals in the education and parenting industries, such as Appily Advance, BoClips, and Strategies for Parents. Additionally, she has worked with several Montessori schools, providing written content in the form of resources for parents and marketing assets.

Her approach to motherhood has been greatly influenced by her experiences as a Montessori teacher. As a child, Rachel had always dreamed of becoming a writer and a teacher. In 2012, Rachel was seeking a career change when she discovered a Montessori school. First hired as an assistant, she went on to complete her training and teach at the kindergarten and lower elementary levels. These experiences transformed her philosophy on parenting, leading to fundamental shifts in perspectives.

The Montessori philosophy calls caregivers to “follow the child” to discover their path to learning. Each of her children has unique interests, and she loves to find ways to foster and encourage their hobbies. When her kids were toddlers, this meant finding outlets for what others may consider mischievous attitudes. For example, when they wanted to play with water, she let them wash dishes at the sink or offered them a tub of water to play with in the yard. Another tenet from the Montessori philosophy is helping children achieve independence and skills through chores. Rachel loves inviting her children to participate in daily household activities such as cooking, cleaning, and gardening.

As a seasoned mother, Rachel understands on a personal level that each child is different. A parenting strategy that works for one child may not work for another. This applies to everything from health to behavior and everything in between. She quickly learned this after the birth of her second child, who has a different demeanor than her first. Additionally, her daughter has sensitive skin, something she didn’t encounter with her firstborn. When writing, Rachel keeps in mind that each parent must decide what’s best for their child based on their unique needs and situation.

Areas of Expertise

As a mother of three, Rachel has been through the stages of infancy, toddlerhood, and beyond several times. This means she is experienced in managing needs, stages, and health from the early years through adolescence. As a parent, she’s seen trends come and go and understands which products and strategies stand the test of time or are worth the effort.

Additionally, Rachel’s Montessori training and teaching experience have provided her with unique perspectives on parenting and motherhood. Her understanding of childhood development has helped her navigate difficult moments in parenting. From managing potty training to fostering independence at bedtime and teaching phonics, Rachel’s expertise in Montessori has been a foundation of support.

As a working mom, Rachel also understands the challenges mothers face today. A mother’s list of tasks is never-ending, and it starts as early as pregnancy. Preparing for the baby’s arrival turns into making strategic purchases that meet the child’s changing needs. Before long, it turns into managing play dates, extracurriculars, and purchasing gifts for birthday parties. Rachel is experienced in all of these areas.

Writing Approach and Philosophy

As a writer, Rachel loves weaving in her real-life experiences to offer practical advice based on reality. When you read her articles, you won’t get unrealistic tips. You’ll get ideas and strategies she’s used and perfected through her lived experience with three children.

When writing, she prefers a conversational note and clear, easy-to-understand writing. Instead of jargon, Rachel prefers using plain language that readers understand.

Rachel believes that each article should help readers through a real challenge or situation. That’s why she strives to offer personal stories and experiences in her writing. This relatability can help readers contextualize the challenge or situation in their own lives.

Grounding writing in credible research is a priority for Rachel. She seeks out evidence-based research and reputable sources to ensure any claims she makes can be trusted. In parenting content, misinformation is rampant. Social media has led to an abundance of people making claims without the necessary credentials to back them up. Rachel believes in the importance of fact-checking and tracks down every source and checks every citation to ensure she provides accurate information.

So many topics in parenting are nuanced. The right approach, strategy, or product depends on so many factors, including each family’s needs and dynamics. Rachel believes in digging into the nuance and prefers not to make sweeping claims about “one right way” to parent or educate children. Her approach involves providing information and options and trusting that each parent will make the best choice for their family.

Rachel Outside the Office

When Rachel isn’t writing blog posts or perfecting website copy, she likes to read, bake, and watch her children’s soccer games. When reading, Rachel enjoys a wide range of books, including non-fiction topics like history or education. For relaxation, she chooses science fiction, fantasy, and murder mystery novels. She also loves gardening and growing her own herbs. You’ll never find her house lacking in homegrown cilantro, basil, or oregano.

Some of her family’s hobbies include enjoying a barbecue, heading to a local park for soccer and bike riding, and watching professional soccer games. On any given weeknight, you can find them moving through the busy routine of homework, soccer practice, dinner, and bedtime. One thing they never sacrifice is a sit-down, screen-free dinner as a family. As in any home with three children, life can be chaotic, but Rachel wouldn’t have it any other way.
